Terms of use
Draft — review before public launch. These terms have not been reviewed by a lawyer. Before launch the owner must fill in the items in [square brackets] (legal entity, address, governing law and courts) and confirm the support address and domain.
These terms are an agreement between you and [owner’s legal name or company, registered address] (“Langimo”, “we”) for the use of the Langimo website, web app and iPhone app (the “service”). By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. Please also read our privacy policy.
1. The service
Langimo offers conversation practice with an AI companion in Spanish, English and German, with translations, corrections, word cards, voice, reminders and progress tracking. We keep improving it, so features may change; we’ll tell you in advance about changes that take away something you pay for.
2. Your account
- You need to be at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent where you live, if higher) to create an account.
- You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email address. Keep access to that mailbox secure: anyone who can read it can sign in as you.
- One account per person. Accounts are personal and may not be shared or resold.
3. Free trial
A new account gets a 5-day free trial with full access, starting when you first sign in. No payment details are needed and nothing is charged when it ends. Each email address gets one free trial; deleting an account and signing up again does not start a new one. The trial includes a fair-use allowance; when it is used up, the trial ends early.
4. Subscriptions
- After the trial, practising with the companion needs a Langimo subscription: Langimo Monthly ($9.99 per month) or Langimo Yearly ($59 per year), or the local App Store price. Prices may change; a change applies from your next renewal, and Apple tells you in advance.
- Subscriptions are bought in the Langimo iPhone app through your Apple ID. Payment, automatic renewal, cancellation and refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store terms. A subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, in your iPhone’s Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- Your subscription also unlocks the website when you sign in with the same email address.
- Before the iPhone app is available in the App Store, subscriptions can’t be bought yet. You keep access to your words and history in the meantime.
- Without an active trial or subscription you can still sign in, browse your conversations, words and mistakes, practise your word cards, export your data and delete your account.
5. Fair use
Langimo is for personal language practice. To keep it fast and affordable, each plan has daily fair-use limits (for example, on a subscription, 200 companion replies, 400 word look-ups and one hour of speech input a day) and a monthly limit on overall usage. Normal practice, even intensive daily practice, stays well below them. When you reach a limit, the app tells you when it resets. We may adjust the limits to keep the service sustainable, and we may suspend use that is automated, shared, or clearly not personal practice.
6. Acceptable use
Don’t use Langimo to break the law, to harass anyone, to create harmful or sexual content involving minors, to try to get around limits or security, to reverse-engineer or overload the service, or to extract its content or models at scale. We may refuse requests that break these rules or the usage policies of our AI providers.
7. AI-generated content
The companion’s replies, translations, corrections, explanations and grades are generated by AI models (Anthropic and OpenAI). They are usually accurate, but they can contain mistakes, including language mistakes. The companion is a fictional character, not a real person. Don’t rely on the service for legal, medical, financial or other professional advice.
8. Your content
What you write and say stays yours. You give us the permission we need to store and process it to run the service for you — for example, to send it to our AI providers to generate a reply, and to keep your history. We don’t use your content for advertising, and we don’t publish it. You can export or delete it at any time (see the privacy policy).
9. Our content
The service, its design, characters, scenes, texts and software belong to Langimo or its licensors. You may use them for your own learning while you have an account. Fonts are used under the SIL Open Font License.
10. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms; where possible we’ll warn you first and let you export your data. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel an App Store subscription — cancel it in your iPhone’s settings.
11. Availability and liability
We work to keep Langimo available and your data safe, but the service is provided “as is” and may sometimes be interrupted. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can’t be limited by contract, or liability that can’t be excluded by law.
12. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before the change applies. If you don’t agree, you can stop using the service and delete your account.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of [country / state]. Disputes go to the courts of [place], unless the consumer law of the country where you live gives you the right to go to your local courts.
14. Apple
If you use the iPhone app, Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Apple is not responsible for the service and has no obligation to provide support for it; contact us instead.
